15th–20th Century Original Paintings

MICHEL  LOISEAU - RIZZO

( 1937 - 2024 )

Two figures tumble together across a striped red and blue cushion in a whirl of movement and colour. Their pale, glowing limbs are built from overlapping translucent blocks of cream, peach and ice blue. The stepped strokes trail behind them like the frames of a time-lapse photograph, so that arms, legs and torsos seem to spin, leap and twist through space. Around them, sweeping bands of turquoise, emerald and deep blue radiate outwards, broken by flashes of acid yellow and a single arc of crimson. They charge the whole surface with energy.

True to its title, the painting celebrates the reckless exuberance of youth. The figure is fragmented into a rhythm of light and motion that recalls Futurism and Cubism. The broad, confident brushwork and glowing, layered colour give the work a vivid, almost musical intensity.
