LEBANON - LIBAN - One Pound/Une Livre Banknote - 1939 dated - in Circulated Condition.

Catalogue Ref - Pick#40c. Une Livre - One Pound Banknote.

This old 1939 dated 1 Livre/1 Pound banknote is in Shades of Green with some Multicolours on the face and in Red with some other colours to the reverse.

On the face of the Banknote at the left side is an illustration of the famous Pillars of Baalbek, in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. Below this image is a large rectangular design with the denomination large within as 1 LIVRE which has white characters reversed out of the Green mosaic style design within the rectangle.

The banknote is dated at the lower centre right on the face as follows - 1er SEPTEMBRE 1939.

The reverse shows a view of an old engraving of  a city at the centre of the banknote, all in a very ornate surround.

Many of these banknotes had overprints in 5 different patterns applied in a separate printing operation. On this banknote the overprint is two Lilac coloured diagonal lines on both the face and the reverse of the banknote, one line extends at an angle of 45 degrees from the bottom left corner, the other line extends at an angle 45 degrees from the bottom centre and bisects the top right corner of the banknote.

The banknote’s Serial number is at the top left on the face in Black as follows - No. J/B5 098,191. The Serial number is also printed in Black just above the SEPTEMBRE 1939 part of the date.

The banknote is sized 163 x 83mm.

This old banknote has seen much circulation; it has three vertical folds and a central horizontal fold plus many other smaller folds and creases, throughout. It also has some tiny edge nics along the top and bottom edges. There is also some light surface dirt on both sides. At the point where the horizontal central fold reaches the left and right edges there is a small tear which does not extend into the banknote's design. Overall, this banknote grades to a/Fine and on the new PMG grading scale has a F15 rating which means - 'The evidence of circulation is considerable with rounded corners, margin splits and other issues. The note must be whole with solid paper.' So, despite its condition here we have a banknote because of its relative scarcity which is a highly collectible example of a sought after type.

Low Starting price of just £8.75 for such a scarce example.

I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS _ PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM!

IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my current location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this.

Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore, those buyers from RUSSIA, ISRAEL, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, VIETNAM, SAUDI ARABIA, MEXICO & CHILE who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item.

I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won.  If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:-

PAYMENT - Pay through the eBay system using your preferred payment method.  In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or a personal cheque drawn in £ on a UK registered Bank, please contact me first if you wish to pay this way.

Shipping/handling: UK and Europe: £2.45 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total,  (buyer’s risk, not recommended!) or £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Rest of World: £3.45 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total (buyer’s risk, not recommended) or £10.90 for registered mail (seller’s risk, necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Multiple wins/items are batched and sent at no extra cost, unless weight is significantly higher, above 20 grams.

NB. Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay, I will usually refund you through the eBay system, before I send your item or items.

A note about feedback

I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect 'five-star' scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So, before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay.

Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first!

PLEASE NOTE - MOST OF MY ITEMS ARE USUALLY NOW MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I am in the UK, I may post from there. Some deliveries may take longer than normal to arrive, this is not my fault, merely the occasional delays that regrettably, sometimes occur within parts of the International Postal System.
