1998 Pokemon Japanese Vending Series 2 Flash Trainer Glossy CGC AU Guiness World Record Holder.
This might be one of the most nostalgic looking cards in the entire 1998 Vending Series.
The artwork by Hikaru Koike immediately harkens back to the original Game Boy Pokémon games. The muted greens, grainy texture, and massive dark cave entrance in the center make this feel like one of those mysterious locations you’d stumble across while exploring Kanto.
I love how small everything feels in this illustration. You’re looking toward this huge cave opening with tiny Pokémon and characters scattered around the entrance, like there’s an entire little world happening around you.
The muted colors and rough, almost pixelated-looking texture make it feel incredibly close to the visual style of the original Game Boy games. It’s simple, mysterious, and INSANELY nostalgic. One of those Vending Series artworks that feels completely different from what you’d normally see on a Pokémon card.
This one is REALLY tough to find in a PSA 10 even tougher to find in a 1/1.
