Vintage set of Madeira creamy organdy table linens .. 8 placemats and 8 napkins. Entirely and meticulously hand embroidered and appliqued, featuring leaves with raised dotted "spores" embroidered in satin stitch. Scalloped borders. The placemats are apx 18" X 12". The napkins are sheer linen, with organdy corner inserts; they are apx 17" X 16 1/2". Unused, still stitched or gathered together, with original small lead gremio tags attached [Gremio dos Industriais de Bordados da Madeira (GIBM) - the official Guild of Embroidery Manufacturers of Madeira, Portugal].  Before high-quality linens, handkerchiefs, or tablecloths could be exported, they had to be submitted to the guild for inspection.
