Up for Bids is a Vintage Royal Palm Straws, Straw Venetian-Style Boater Hat Skimmer with Black Ribbon that I picked up at a local Estate Sale. This Vintage Boat Hat measures approximately 12-3/4" long x 11" wide with a 2-1/8" brim.  It does not have a size label but I wear a size 7-1/4 and it fits me snuggly.  Yellowing of the straw, some soiling and spotting of the brim, some staining and foxing to the lining from age and some wear damage to the inside headband as you can see in close-up in my photos.  It comes in the old Dobbs Hats, 5th Avenue, New York Hat Box that it was in when I purchased it.  Please ask any questions you may have before bidding.

Royal Palm Straws Venetian-style straw boater hats are classic warm-weather accessories rooted in the rigid, flat-topped designs traditionally worn by Venetian gondoliers and late 19th-century boaters.

Design and Materials

Venetian Boaters: Characterized by a stiff, flat crown, a sharp flat brim, and traditionally encircled by a grosgrain ribbon (sometimes with trailing ribbons as seen on authentic Venetian canotiers). They are traditionally woven from rigid sennit, wheat, or Milan straw.

Historical Context:

The classic boater hat peaked in popularity between the late 1800s and 1930, worn for sailing, rowing, and summer leisure. Brands and makers historically varied from Italian millineries (Florence and Venice) to American outfitters utilizing imported palm and sennit straws.

Shipping Weight for this item will be 3 pounds and it will be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 States via UPS Ground Home Delivery Shipping or USPS Ground Advantage Mail Package Delivery Service Shipping.   Shipping Fees apply but no additional handling fee will be assessed on this item.
