A collectible piece from the early history of Oakley performance eyewear.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Oakley introduced the original Factory Pilot Eyeshade in 1984, marking the company’s move into sport-performance eyewear.
The concept grew from founder Jim Jannard’s work with Oakley motocross goggles and the idea of giving athletes greater coverage than conventional sunglasses. The resulting oversized single-shield design, distinctive adjustable earstems and wraparound coverage became one of Oakley’s defining early eyewear designs.
The Eyeshade helped establish the design direction that would later become synonymous with Oakley performance eyewear.
THIS SET INCLUDES
* Vintage Oakley Factory Pilot Eyeshades * Orange shield lens currently fitted * Additional clear Oakley shield lens * Items shown in the photographs
CONDITION
This is genuine vintage eyewear showing considerable age and previous use.
The orange shield lens has numerous scratches and surface marks. We have deliberately included close-up photographs under strong direct light so buyers can clearly assess the condition.
The frame and adjustable earstems also show age-related wear. The arms/earstems may sit somewhat unevenly and may benefit from adjustment or restoration by the new owner.
We have not attempted to straighten, reshape, polish or restore the frame, preferring to offer the piece in the condition in which we acquired it.
The additional clear Oakley shield lens is also vintage/pre-owned and shows age/use. Please refer closely to the photographs for its condition.
Given its age and condition, we consider this set particularly suitable for an Oakley collector, vintage eyewear collection, display piece or restoration project, rather than a buyer expecting modern sunglasses in near-new condition.
Please examine all photographs carefully. They show the actual item being offered and form an important part of the condition description.
