Offered is a distinctive Civil War rifleman’s headgear badge insignia fashioned in the form of a detailed bugle or hunting horn, a design traditionally associated with riflemen and light infantry. The piece features an elongated coiled horn body with raised ribbed detailing, a flared decorative bell embellished with repeating ornamental motifs, and a narrow mouthpiece at the opposite end. The reverse displays the construction and surviving attachment hardware, including wire-style fastening elements. Based on the ruler shown in the photographs, the badge measures approximately 3 1/2 inches at its greatest dimension. The metal exhibits extensive age-related surface character, including blue-green verdigris, darkened patina, oxidation, discoloration, areas of exposed brass-toned metal, scratches, wear, and deposits throughout.
