John Eliot Gardiner conducts the Lyon Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a performance of Debussy's opera. Golaud meets the mysterious Mélisande in the forest, and takes her home to marry her. However, Mélisande falls in love with Golaud's half-brother, Pelléas. Although the two resist their passion for each other, Golaud grows jealous, and is angry when Mélisande accidentally loses her wedding ring.
