F-Toys Work Shop 13 Heavy Bomber Collection 1-3B, Avro Lancaster, 57 Squadron, 1/144 Scale.

57th Squadron, Southern England 1944.

During World War II, No. 57 Squadron RAF was one of the most heavily deployed bomber units in RAF Bomber Command. Operating continuously from the outbreak of hostilities in 1939 until the surrender of Germany in 1945, the squadron flew over 5,000 operational sorties. Tragically, due to its constant involvement in high-risk campaigns, it was considered an unlucky unit, ultimately suffering the highest percentage loss rate in Bomber Command

The Heavy Bomber Phase (1942–1945): In September 1942, the squadron moved to RAF Scampton and transitioned to the legendary Avro Lancaster heavy bomber. By August 1943, they relocated to their final wartime home, RAF East Kirkby, serving as a core component of No. 5 Group RAF.
