• Hand-bound in leather blocked in gold on front, back, spine and doublures, gilt page edges on all sides.

• 152 pages with abundant floral illustrations by Beatrice Pagden.

• Introductory note by John Bidwell loosely inserted. 

• Slipcase covered in teal cloth blocked in gold.

This is an accurate Facsimile edition of a copy of William Morris’s 1873 edition published by Ellis & White which was personalised with extensive floral watercolours by Beatrice Pagden, and the copy then expertly bound to produce an Arts and Crafts style volume  currently housed in the Morgan Library and Museum in New York. 

Every element of this unique and stunning volume has been recreated for the first time in this meticulous facsimile: the fresh colours of the beautiful illustrations, the luxurious binding (including the tiny signature, 18 C-S 87, that is blocked on the rear doublure), and even the feel of its pages. The result is a breath-taking combination of text, illustration and case that perfectly embodies Morris's vision of the 'beautiful book'.

William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist, fantasy writer, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre, while he helped win acceptance of socialism in fin de siècle Great Britain. He also founded the Kelmscott Press to publish limited-edition, illuminated-style print books, a cause to which he devoted his final years.
