Apparently this title was originally published by Harper & Brothers, later reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap), although probably in the same year.

The book belongs to his famous long-running series featuring Professor Craig Kennedy, a character widely known as "The American Sherlock Holmes.”  Kennedy uses contemporary and speculative forensic science, technology, and psychological analysis to solve complex crimes alongside his journalist companion, Walter Jameson.

Commentaries online:

The Sherlock Holmes comparison people make is a good one. And I like Sherlock Holmes!

It's as good as Reeve fans say it is!

Contemporary formal reviews for this specific 1924 title are scarce today, as the book is a vintage piece of early detective fiction.

… the narrative follows Professor Kennedy—often dubbed the "American Sherlock Holmes"—as he applies cutting-edge 1920s science, chemistry, psychoanalysis, and pseudo-exotic laboratory gadgets to solve a baffling crime.

The title character or element revolves around the notion of dreams, subconscious exploration, or a mysterious dancer, reflecting Reeve's frequent integration of emerging psychological concepts (like psychoanalysis and dream interpretation) into his mystery plots.
