Background: On July 9, 2005, professional skateboarder Danny Way achieved a historic feat by becoming the first person to jump over the Great Wall of China without motor assistance, launching himself across a 61-foot gap on a custom-built MegaRamp at speeds reaching nearly 50 mph. What makes this feat exceptionally rare and notable is not only the unprecedented scale of the architecture—requiring a structure standing roughly 60 feet tall to clear one of the world's most iconic ancient monuments—but the sheer physical grit demonstrated by Way. Having severely bruised his heel and sprained his ankle during a brutal practice fall just a day prior, Way was barely able to walk, yet he pushed through immense pain to land the jump cleanly multiple times in front of thousands of spectators and government officials, even capping off the historical moment by spinning a 360 over the gap.

Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at History's Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction.
