Read this book in 2014, and its the 7th volume of the marvellous "Hugh Corbett" series, from Paul Doherty.

Once more the historical details are brilliantly interwoven within this mystery and mayhem and murder.

Highly recommended, for this is another top-class addition to this wonderful series, and that why I like to call this episode: "A Superb Assassin Mystery”!

The hero, Hugh Corbett a medieval clerk and investigator, who is always dogged in his determination to find the truth, danger is never far away. This volume is a bit more bloodthirsty and gruesome than previous books in the series. Full of intrigue, murder and assassins, a great twisted plot to unravel.

Overall, one of my favourite authors who I have happily read and reread again and again. A brilliantly entertaining read.

Light medieval fiction and jolly good fun. Enjoy the interplay between the solemn and sensible Hugh Corbett, and his sidekick Ranulf, who is loyal dependable, but not averse to drinking a lot , chasing the wenches, and some trickery at gambling.They are dispatched to Nottingham Castle as it seems that Robin of Loxley has re-appeared and been targeting the king's tax collectors and other officials who dare to venture into Sherwood Forest. 

A nice mix of medieval folklore/setting and murder mysteries. The book is historical based detective fiction and it was quite engrossing to read from start till finish. It also has a nice locked room mystery thrown in as well. Sir Hugh Corbett is a fascinating sleuth of those times.

I don't usually like reading series out of order, but this particular entry in Doherty's long-running medieval mystery series caught my attention by combining its historical murder mystery plot with the legend of Robin Hood, a tale I've always been fond of. A quick and entertaining read - perhaps it's about time I read some more of this series.
