Instead of the traditional Kennedy design, the 2026 half dollar features an entirely new Statue of Liberty design created specifically for America's Semiquincentennial.
The United States Mint created special designs for 2026 to commemorate 250 years of American independence.
The obverse features a dramatic close-up portrait of the Statue of Liberty, accompanied by the dual dates 1776-2026.
The reverse depicts Liberty passing her torch to a new generation, accompanied by James Madison's words:
“KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.”
Unlike the familiar Kennedy half dollar, this special design is being used for 2026 only; the Kennedy portrait is scheduled to return in 2027.
This example has been professionally certified by ICG as Mint State 66 and carries the desirable Initial Releasedesignation.
