American Flyer Baldwin VO1000 Diesel Switcher
M & St L No. 21813
From Set 20193
1958

Described as "very rare" on the wonderful website thegilbertgallery.org.

Condition.  Runs erratically.  Hairline scratches and small blemishes throughout the exterior; roof photo shows a deeper scratch that is not a crack.  The rear platform has a hairline crack originating at the screw hole (rather common), and the hole itself is missing most of its bottom (see photo).  Three sets of steps remain intact; the fourth is missing its bottom step only.  Other components (not previously mentioned) are intact.  Horn, rear screw and one spring are not original.

Background.  The Baldwin VO-1000 was a diesel-electric switcher locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works between January 1939 and December 1946. They were powered by a naturally aspirated eight-cylinder diesel engine rated at 1,000 horsepower and rode on a pair of two-axle trucks in a B-B wheel arrangement.
