This release comprehensively covers—in chronological order—every version of *Sessions*, arguably the world's most famous unreleased album. The *Sessions* project was pursued repeatedly starting in the early 1980s, but each attempt stalled just before release, often due to opposition from the band members themselves. Consequently, multiple versions of *Sessions* exist, reflecting the different eras in which they were conceived.
As the tracklist reveals, the project involved a process of trial and error regarding not only the mixes but also the selection of songs. The version supervised by Geoff Emerick in 1984 came closest to fruition—with the album and a lead single actually announced—only to be shelved once again. After the mid-1980s, the project remained dormant; the concept of an unreleased album was eventually re-evaluated, and the songs themselves finally became available to the public through the *Anthology* project in 1995. Yet, even today, the distinctive characteristics of those earlier versions of *Sessions* continue to captivate enthusiasts.
The "Boardroom Tape" on Disc 1 is sourced from the master used for the initial vinyl release; while clearly aimed at hardcore fans, the audio quality differs surprisingly from previously released editions. The 1984 version on Disc 2 features a medley-style transition connecting "Christmastime Is Here Again" and "Come And Get It"—a creative touch that highlights Emerick's serious intent to craft a cohesive album. Disc 4 includes *Sessions* outtakes, stereo mixes created for the 1982 version that were ultimately omitted from the final sequence, and material from the 1983 *File Under* project—the very origin of the *Sessions* concept—along with other related recordings. This release comprehensively compiles the various iterations of "Sessions" from different eras—including the 1976 Board Room Tape, the 1982 John Barrett Tape, the 1984 "1, 2, 3, 4!" mix, the 1985 mix (and its vinyl rip), and the 1995 mix by George Martin. With the inclusion of numerous related audio sources on Disc 4, this set stands as the definitive "Sessions" collection. It is a high-quality, pressed disc edition featuring beautiful picture-disc artwork, designed to be a permanent addition to any collection.
