COLLECTORS INFORMATION AND/OR ANECDOTE

U.S.A., short for Under Satan’s Authority, was released in 1994 and remains the only original studio album from Flatlinerz. The group emerged from New York and became closely associated with the development and popularization of the term horrorcore, combining traditional hip-hop production with horror-film imagery, occult references and deliberately disturbing visual presentation.

The album was produced by a team that included Rockwilder, DR Period, Tempest, Crush and Kool Tee, while Russell Simmons was among the executive producers. Recording sessions took place at major New York studios including Chung King, Greene Street and Next Level Studios.

Despite its Def Jam backing, the album remained a relatively underground release. It reached No. 65 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 24 on Top Heatseekers, while “Live Evil” reached No. 35 on Hot Rap Singles.

The provocative visual imagery surrounding the project also contributed to its notoriety. Videos for songs including “Satanic Verses,” “Rivaz of Red” and “Live Evil” received limited television exposure because of their graphic horror imagery. Over time, however, U.S.A. has developed a reputation as a cult early horrorcore album, giving original 1994 Def Jam copies substantially more collector identity than an ordinary mid-1990s rap CD.
