This collectible three-track single includes the studio version of “Light Years” plus two exclusive live B-sides — “Grievance” and “Soon Forget” — recorded in Bellingham, Washington on May 10, 2000.
Unlike the standard Binaural album, this release comes in a distinctive cardboard sleeve with abstract green, yellow and orange artwork and catalog number 34K 79452.
An appealing Pearl Jam collectible because it combines one of the key tracks from Binaural with contemporary live material unavailable in this configuration on the regular album.
“Light Years” was the second single associated with Pearl Jam’s 2000 album Binaural and was written by Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready and Stone Gossard. Pearl Jam’s official archive identifies Binaural as the parent album and dates the song’s first live performance to May 10, 2000 in Bellingham, Washington.
That date gives this particular single an especially interesting connection to Pearl Jam history: both live B-sides on this CD — “Grievance” and “Soon Forget” — were recorded at that same May 10, 2000 Bellingham performance. In other words, the concert represented not only the source of the two B-sides but also the first known live performance of “Light Years.”
