1816 Letter from Cuba to Massachusetts 

Sailor Nathaniel Manson writes his parents from Trinidad, Cuba, on 16 June 1816. He has been sick for two weeks or more. The ship is waiting for cargo from a plantation, so he cannot say when he will sail home. He had asked them to write him at Wilmington (almost certainly North Carolina), but the voyage was changed and they went to the West Indies instead. He now asks them to send a letter to New York so he can hear from them if God lets him return. He signs as their “unfortunate son” and sends love to friends.  7.5 x 12.".  Usual fold lines.
