TRÈS RARE TERRE CUITE FUNÉRAIRE LOBI DE L’ANCIENNE HAUTE VOLTA (fouilles 1950)
On ne sait quasiment rien de ces très rares petites représentations de terre cuite ou de pierre tendre des Lobi de l’actuel Burkina Faso.
Il s’agit de petites représentations anthropomorphes d’ancêtres ou d’esprit, ou pour certains spécialistes, d’humains passés dans l’autre monde. Pour d’autres, il s’agit des offrandes votives dont le but de serait en quelque sorte d’annoncer la venue du défunt, ou de la défunte dans l’au-delà.
Chez les Lobi, ce sont traditionnellement les femmes qui sont chargés du travail de poterie et c’est peut-être la raison pour laquelle ces statuettes représentent quasi-essentiellement des femmes ?
Une théorie propose que ce retour à la terre matricielle des dépouilles ait un rappport avec des rites secondaires de fécondité (et donc serait la raison de ces représentations essentiellement féminines) ce qui, quand on connait l’aridité du pays, pourrait tout à fait s’expliquer (et expliquer aussi la très forte abrasion de la statuette).
S’agissant de celle que je vous propose ce soir, bien qu’il s’agisse d’un objet de fouilles très abîmé, avec des manques très importants, je ne peux m’empêcher de ressentir une certaine présence à son contact qui m’émeut profondément.
C’est assurément un artefact qui, malgré un prix de départ exceptionnellement bas, ne pourra intéresser que des collectionneurs très spécialisés.
Terre cuite ou pierre tendre, je ne suis pas parvenu à faire la différence. Étant donné l'abrasion et le poids, je pencherais pour de la terre cuite, mais d'autres m'ont assuré qu'il s'agissait de pierre tendre. Cela rajoute à son mystère.

VERY RARE LOBI FUNERARY TERRACOTTA FROM FORMER UPPER VOLTA (1950 excavation)Almost nothing is known about these very rare small representations—made of terracotta or soft stone—created by the Lobi people of present-day Burkina Faso.
They are small anthropomorphic depictions of ancestors or spirits—or, according to some specialists, of humans who have passed into the other world. Others view them as votive offerings intended, in a sense, to announce the arrival of the deceased in the afterlife.
Among the Lobi, pottery work is traditionally the responsibility of women; perhaps this is why these statuettes almost exclusively depict women.
One theory suggests that this return of the remains to the "matrix earth" is linked to secondary fertility rites (which would explain the predominantly female nature of these figures)—a plausible hypothesis given the region's aridity (which would also account for the statuette's heavy abrasion).
Regarding the piece I am offering this evening: although it is a heavily damaged excavated object with significant losses, I cannot help but feel a certain presence when handling it—one that moves me deeply.
It is certainly an artifact that, despite an exceptionally low starting price, will likely appeal only to highly specialized collectors.
I have been unable to determine whether it is terracotta or soft stone. Given the abrasion and weight, I would lean toward terracotta, yet others have insisted it is soft stone. This only adds to its mystery.

EXTREMADAMENTE RARAS PIEDRA FUNERARIA DE TERRACOTA LOBI DEL ALTO VOLTA (excavaciones de 1950)
Prácticamente no se sabe nada sobre estas pequeñas y rarísimas representaciones de terracota o piedra blanda del pueblo Lobi, del actual Burkina Faso.
Se trata de pequeñas representaciones antropomórficas de ancestros o espíritus, o, según algunos especialistas, de personas que han fallecido. Otros creen que son ofrendas votivas destinadas a anunciar la llegada del difunto al más allá.
Entre los Lobi, las mujeres son tradicionalmente las responsables de la alfarería, lo que podría explicar por qué estas estatuillas representan casi exclusivamente figuras femeninas.
Una teoría sugiere que este retorno de los restos a la tierra, la cuna materna, está relacionado con ritos de fertilidad secundarios (y, por lo tanto, explicaría estas representaciones predominantemente femeninas), lo cual, dada la aridez de la región, podría explicarse completamente (y también explicaría la extensa abrasión de la estatuilla).
Respecto a la pieza que presento esta noche, si bien se trata de un objeto excavado muy dañado y con pérdidas significativas, no puedo evitar sentir una presencia especial en ella que me conmueve profundamente.
Sin duda, es un artefacto que, a pesar de su precio de salida excepcionalmente bajo, solo atraerá a coleccionistas altamente especializados.
No he podido determinar si es de terracota o de piedra blanda. Dado el desgaste y el peso, me inclinaría por la terracota, pero otros me han asegurado que es de piedra blanda. Esto aumenta su misterio.

ÄUSSERST SELTENE LOBI-TERRAKOTTA-GRABISFIGUR AUS DER ALTEN OBERVOLTA (Ausgrabungen 1950)
Über diese äußerst seltenen kleinen Terrakotta- oder Weichsteinfiguren der Lobi aus dem heutigen Burkina Faso ist so gut wie nichts bekannt.
Es handelt sich um kleine anthropomorphe Darstellungen von Vorfahren oder Geistern oder, nach Ansicht einiger Experten, von Menschen, die ins Jenseits eingegangen sind. Andere glauben, dass es sich um Votivgaben handelt, die die Ankunft der Verstorbenen im Jenseits ankündigen sollten.
Bei den Lobi sind traditionell die Frauen für die Töpferei zuständig, was erklären könnte, warum diese Statuetten fast ausschließlich Frauen darstellen.
Eine Theorie besagt, dass diese Rückkehr der sterblichen Überreste zur Erde, der mütterlichen Wiege, mit sekundären Fruchtbarkeitsriten zusammenhängt (und somit diese überwiegend weiblichen Darstellungen erklären würde), was angesichts der Trockenheit der Region vollständig verständlich wäre (und auch den starken Abrieb der Statuette erklären würde).
Was das Objekt betrifft, das ich heute Abend vorstelle: Obwohl es stark beschädigt ist und erhebliche Fehlstellen aufweist, spüre ich eine gewisse Präsenz, die mich tief berührt.
Es ist sicherlich ein Artefakt, das trotz des außergewöhnlich niedrigen Startpreises nur sehr spezialisierte Sammler ansprechen wird.
Ob es sich um Terrakotta oder Weichgestein handelt, konnte ich nicht feststellen. Aufgrund der Abnutzung und des Gewichts würde ich eher auf Terrakotta tippen, aber andere haben mir versichert, dass es Weichgestein ist. Das trägt zu seinem Geheimnis bei.

RARISSIMA STATUETTA FUNERARIA LOBI IN TERRACOTTA PROVENIENTE DALL'ALTO VOLTA ANTICO (scavi del 1950)
Non si sa praticamente nulla di queste rarissime statuette funerarie in terracotta o pietra tenera del popolo Lobi, dell'attuale Burkina Faso.
Si tratta di piccole rappresentazioni antropomorfe di antenati o spiriti, oppure, secondo alcuni specialisti, di esseri umani defunti. Altri ritengono che siano offerte votive destinate ad annunciare l'arrivo del defunto nell'aldilà.
Tra i Lobi, le donne sono tradizionalmente responsabili della lavorazione della ceramica, il che potrebbe spiegare perché queste statuette raffigurino quasi esclusivamente figure femminili.
Una teoria suggerisce che questo ritorno dei resti alla terra, la culla materna, sia legato a riti di fertilità secondaria (e spiegherebbe quindi queste rappresentazioni prevalentemente femminili), il che, data l'aridità della regione, potrebbe essere pienamente giustificato (e spiegherebbe anche l'estesa abrasione della statuetta).
Riguardo all'oggetto che vi presento questa sera, sebbene sia un reperto archeologico molto danneggiato e con significative perdite, non posso fare a meno di percepire una certa presenza al suo cospetto, che mi commuove profondamente.
È certamente un manufatto che, nonostante un prezzo di partenza eccezionalmente basso, interesserà solo collezionisti altamente specializzati.
Terracotta o pietra tenera? Non sono riuscito a distinguere la differenza. Date le abrasioni e il peso, propenderei per la terracotta, ma altri mi hanno assicurato che si tratta di pietra tenera. Questo non fa che accrescere il suo mistero.
