Developed shortly after Imakatsu's founding the Jabalon has been a long-selling product for over a decade. Although it was once renewed as the Jabalon Neo there was a surge of passionate requests from big bass hunters across the country for the original Jabalon to be re-released. Finally a complete revival has been realized with the mold materials and factory all the same as before. With its multi-jointed swimbait-like appearance it gives the impression of a soft undulating swimming action but the first great thing about the Jabalon is its vast versatility. It's great for fast retrieves slow retrieves casting sinking on the surface and even skipping—it's the ultimate multi-worm that can do anything. In a Lure Magazine interview commemorating the revival we discovered its excellent compatibility with a 7g free rig. The large water resistance of the Jabalon creates sufficient distance between the sinker and the lure and the free worm falls with a slight delay behind the sinker highlighting the characteristics of the free rig. Imaie named this the Food Chain Rig because of the relationship between the Jabalon baitfish chasing the sinker goby and the bass targeting that bait. The moment this rig attracts bass the most is when the sinker hits the bottom. The Jabalon becomes weightless for a moment and in a sudden change from its previous straight-down swimming it stops abruptly and flashes with a wobbling motion resulting in a flurry of bites. (The gap between stable swimming and flashing action) In fact this momentary irregular flashing motion is the second amazing thing about the Jabalon. While its sensual undulating swimming motion similar to that of trout tends to grab attention what big bass hunters are really drawn to is the momentary flashing action that can only be achieved with the Jabalon material and shape. The truly irregular and natural flashing undulation action created by the Jabalon's multi-joint structure and unique material is also the source of Imaie's success using only the Jabalon at the Basser All-Star Classic. What we focused on most in the revival of the Jabalon was actually using the same manufacturing factory and materials as before. In modern bass fishing you're far more likely to catch fish by thinking of the Jabalon as a new high-density worm rather than using it as a traditional swimbait. Imaie asserts that the three-pronged approach of letting it drift dragging it along the bottom and leaving it still is the killer technique in modern bass fishing rather than trying to force it to swim.
