Vehicle Description

Only a handful of American sports cars have achieved the legendary status of the second-generation Corvette, and this 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible perfectly captures the spirit of the model's most celebrated era. Finished today in handsome period-correct Milano Maroon over a standard Black vinyl interior, this numbers-matching C2 combines the timeless styling of Chevrolet's iconic Sting Ray with thoughtful performance upgrades that enhance its driving enjoyment while preserving its original character.

Introduced in 1963, the C2 Corvette represented a dramatic leap forward from the first-generation model. Under the direction of Bill Mitchell and engineering visionary Zora Arkus-Duntov, the new Sting Ray featured a fully independent rear suspension, improved weight distribution, and a sleek, aerodynamic body that transformed the Corvette into a world-class sports car. By 1965, the platform had reached a new level of refinement and performance. The model year introduced four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment, a groundbreaking advancement among American production cars, providing vastly improved stopping power and durability. Additional suspension refinements and the continued evolution of Chevrolet's small-block V8 further cemented the 1965 Corvette's reputation as one of the finest performance automobiles of its era.

Originally delivered in Ermine White, this Corvette was professionally restored during the early 1990s and refinished in its current Milano Maroon exterior. Complementing the rich color are full chrome wheel covers with simulated knock-off spinners, fresh 1-inch whitewall tires supplied by Coker Tire, and a distinctive 1967-style big-block "stinger" hood that lends a more aggressive appearance while remaining faithful to the Corvette's mid-sixties heritage.

The cabin remains true to its sporting roots with standard Black vinyl upholstery, enhanced by a genuine wood-rim steering wheel, Corvette carpeted floor mats, and an aftermarket AM/FM radio for improved cruising enjoyment. The result is a comfortable and inviting cockpit that balances originality with practicality.

Power comes from the car's original, numbers-matching L75 327 cubic-inch V8 rated at 300 horsepower when new. During the restoration, the engine was comprehensively rebuilt and upgraded with several desirable L79-inspired performance enhancements. These include 1966 date-coded 350-horsepower cylinder heads fitted with larger 2.02-inch intake and 1.60-inch exhaust valves, a Holley high-performance carburetor topped with an open-element air cleaner, and finned aluminum valve covers. Together, these upgrades provide stronger breathing characteristics and a more spirited driving experience while maintaining the period-correct appearance enthusiasts appreciate.

Backing the small-block is its original 4-speed manual transmission, now benefiting from a Hurst Competition Plus shifter assembly that delivers precise and confident gear changes. Out back, a desirable 1966-specification 3.36:1 Posi-Traction rear axle ratio provides an ideal balance of acceleration and relaxed highway cruising, making this Corvette equally enjoyable on winding back roads or extended touring events.

Acquired from a Maryland enthusiast who enjoyed and carefully maintained the car for the past nine years, this Corvette arrived at our facility in May 2026 and immediately received additional preparation. Recent service included installation of new Coker Tire whitewall tires, replacement door and convertible top weatherstripping, new sway bushings & end links, fresh engine oil & filter, new valve cover gaskets, rebuilt alternator, all new brake pads and rotors, brake fluid flush, a new fuel filter and fuel line to the fuel pump, and a comprehensive detailing to ensure the car presents at its best.

Also included with the sale is an attractive set of American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels mounted with radial redline tires, providing an alternate period-performance appearance that can easily transform the car's character.

Today, this Corvette presents as an older restoration showing honest patina in the paint and expected age on frequently used surfaces. Rather than detracting from its appeal, these signs of use underscore its identity as a thoroughly sorted driver's Corvette, one that can be enjoyed confidently on the road rather than hidden away. For the enthusiast seeking a numbers-matching C2 with tasteful performance enhancements, proven reliability, and timeless styling, this 1965 Corvette Convertible offers an outstanding opportunity to experience one of America's greatest sports cars exactly as intended: behind the wheel.
