Description

Please read the complete item description before purchasing, especially the Shipping, Import Duties & Taxes, and Information for EU Buyers sections. Thank you for your understanding.

This is a beautiful vintage Japanese black tomesode kimono made of silk.

The lower portion is decorated with an elegant embroidered scene depicting a parent peacock and its chick. The detailed embroidery and graceful composition stand out beautifully against the deep black silk background.

In Japanese culture, the peacock is associated with beauty, dignity, prosperity, and protection. The parent-and-child design also conveys a warm sense of familial affection and harmony.

A black tomesode is the most formal type of kimono traditionally worn by married women in Japan. Beyond traditional wear, this piece would also make a striking decorative textile, display piece, costume, or valuable addition to a Japanese kimono collection.
