**Historical Description:**

An exceptional, highly preserved piece of World War II Pacific Theatre history. Following the formal USAFFE surrender, local resistance units formed the Volunteer Service Corps (V.S.C.) in the field to battle Japanese occupying forces. This ultra-scarce municipal emergency circulating note was printed locally on makeshift wood-pulp paper to sustain the blockaded local economy of Guiuan, Samar. Features the bold "5¢" central plate design and explicit typewritten promise text referencing the V.S.C. in the field, with the spelled-out underprint reading "FIVE CENTAVOS".
