This 16-track compilation brings together some of Cristian Castro’s most recognizable recordings, including “Lloran las Rosas,” “Por Amarte Así,” “Azul,” “Volver a Amar,” “Lloviendo Estrellas,” “Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor” and “Lo Mejor de Mi.”

COLLECTORS INFORMATION AND/OR ANECDOTE

Grandes Hits was Cristian Castro’s first major greatest-hits compilation, released in September 2002. Rather than being only a recycled collection, BMG added three previously unreleased songs — “Cuando Me Miras Así,” “Miedo” and “Soledad” — giving the release added appeal beyond a standard retrospective.

The compilation also highlights the wide range of collaborations in Cristian’s catalog. “Escondidos” features Olga Tañón, “Pasión” features Grupo Límite, “Ella” pairs him with José Alfredo Jiménez through a posthumous duet presentation, and “Después de Ti... ¿Qué?” features pianist Raúl Di Blasio.

“Cuando Me Miras Así” was actively promoted as the new single from the compilation in 2002, and contemporary Billboard advertising specifically highlighted the album and its three new tracks.

For collectors, the strongest characteristic of this particular copy is its Venezuelan manufacture and distribution. The rear artwork explicitly states “Hecho y distribuido en Venezuela por Inversiones Rodven C.A.”, while the disc carries catalog 95787-2.
