Very useful vintage item by Photolux Inc, Long Beach NY USA
Here is a rare and useful vintage item. It is called STEREO ANGLELENS 1. It was manufactured in the 1950s by a company called Photolux Inc., located in Long Beach NY USA.
These lenses were designed by well-known stereo personality Kenneth Tydings (author of Stereo Realist Guide and Revere Stereo Guide, both for sale on my ebay store). I copy from the Revere Guide:
The Stereo-AngleLens was designed by the author to permit two simultaneous, corrected toed-in stereo pictures to be made at one time without the bother or fuss of a camera-shift manipulation.
Both the Right and Left pictures are taken together so that close-up stereo of living subjects, as would be required for medical purposes, is now possible.
The Stereo-AngleLens consists of a prism (to correct the toe-in [convergence]) upon which the necessary portrait close-up focusing correction has been ground. [In other words, this is a combination of a close-up lens and a prism]
It is very simple in design and was engineered to permit its use in any standard Series V filter holder. To use the pair sold here, you do not need anything, all adapters come with it.
The Stereo-AngleLens is simply inserted into the filter holder with each of its raised silver dots facing inward and the straight lines that appear on the rim facing outwards.
In many respects this is similar to the View-Master close up attachments for the Personal VM stereo camera.
