Released in 1997, Amor a la Mexicana became one of Thalía’s most internationally successful albums and an important release in the expansion of Latin pop during the late 1990s. It reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and No. 2 on the Latin Pop Albums chart.
The album was recorded in Miami with a prominent production team led by Emilio Estefan Jr. and Kike Santander, blending Latin pop with cumbia, salsa, dance and traditional Mexican influences. AllMusic describes the album as one of the strongest developments of the sound Thalía had established on her preceding EMI release, En Éxtasis.
The title song “Amor a la Mexicana” became one of Thalía’s signature recordings, while “Por Amor” and “Mujer Latina” also became major singles associated with this period of her career.
