Dan Simmons' Hyperion, first published in 1989, is the opening novel of the Hyperion Cantos and winner of the 1990 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Set in a far-future civilization spread across hundreds of worlds, the story follows seven pilgrims traveling to the distant world of Hyperion and the mysterious Time Tombs, where they expect to encounter the lethal and enigmatic creature known as the Shrike.
The novel is structured around the individual stories of the pilgrims, each explaining why he or she has joined the journey. Their accounts move through military science fiction, political intrigue, horror, religion, artificial intelligence and time travel, gradually revealing both the history of the Hyperion universe and the connections among the travelers themselves. Simmons deliberately borrowed the pilgrimage structure from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, while the title and much of the imagery draw upon the poetry of John Keats.
This Easton Press collector's edition was published in 1993, with an introduction by Gary Westfahl and artwork by Byron Taylor. It presents Simmons' novel in Easton's traditional full-leather format, with gilt decoration, raised spine bands, gilt page edges, moiré endpapers, sewn pages and a permanent ribbon marker.
This copy is BRAND NEW and remains SEALED in its original shrinkwrap. It has never been opened or read. The original Easton Press shipping box is also included; the box itself is open, while the book inside remains sealed exactly as issued.
