Vintage Argentina first day cover commemorating Pope Pius XII (Eugenio Pacelli, 1876–1958), postmarked Buenos Aires June 20, 1959.

An especially attractive large-format memorial cover featuring a detailed portrait cachet of Pius XII with papal insignia and heraldic imagery, paired with Argentina’s large 1 peso Pius XII memorial stamp.

Of particular interest, the accompanying period dealer note describes the cachet as “entirely painted by hand in transparent water colors.” The portrait and decorative elements display the translucent multicolor treatment visible in the photographs. This characterization is retained as period collector/dealer documentation and has not been independently verified.

A visually strong midcentury FDC with crossover appeal to collectors of Argentina postal history, Vatican and Papal material, Catholic history, Pope Pius XII and hand-colored illustrated cachets.

Vintage condition with age toning and light handling wear. Back shows additional toning/soiling consistent with age. Please review all photographs for exact condition.
