Beautiful antique American Brilliant Period cut-glass footed compote, dating approximately to the turn of the 20th century.

This unusually substantial small compote measures approximately 5 inches tall × 5 inches across the top and weighs an impressive 33.61 ounces (approximately 953 grams / 2.1 pounds).

The bowl combines delicate floral cutting/engraving with deeply cut geometric decoration. A band of finely crosshatched diamond-shaped panels surrounds the upper portion of the bowl beneath an intricately notched rim.

The floral decoration features large daisy-like blossoms surrounded by graceful sweeping leaves and stems.

The bowl rests on a beautifully faceted pedestal stem terminating in a circular foot with a dramatic radiating star cut into the base.

The deeper geometric areas have distinctly sharp cutting, and the piece produces a clear sustained ring when gently tapped, consistent with quality period cut glass.

No manufacturer's signature has been located. Although the workmanship is consistent with quality American cut glass of the period, the piece is being offered as maker unknown rather than making an unsupported attribution to a particular cutting house.

A beautiful and exceptionally substantial small example of turn-of-the-century American cut glass
