Original antique early 20th-century "The Protectograph" mechanical check writer / check protector manufactured by G.W. Todd & Company (Rochester, NY, serial number 503165, patented up to 1913). Built with a heavy cast-iron body in glossy black enamel with pinstriped details, featuring a cream numeric index dial, side hand-crank operation, sliding check-feed guide tray, and hinged top access door revealing the internal inked rollers and factory instructional text. Retains its original paper operating instructions and patent label preserved on the underside. In very good vintage cosmetic and mechanical condition with smooth mechanical action, intact dial, honest finish wear to the brass maker's plate, and an exceptionally clean, well-preserved frame. Very heavy. Pictured as found, did not test beyond turning the crank, which turns smoothly.
