A refined antique Edwardian tie pin, dating to the early 20th century and presented in a period fitted retailer’s box.
The pin is formed in a slim yellow-metal bar, centred with a delicate openwork floral motif set with a rich blue faceted stone. The stone is bezel-set with fine milgrain detail and is consistent with sapphire by colour and cut, though no formal gem testing has been undertaken.
The piece is unmarked, however none of the tie pin responds to a magnet, including the pin itself, which is consistent with gold or a high-gold alloy. The construction, proportions, and detailing are all typical of Edwardian gentleman’s jewellery.
The tie pin is accompanied by a fitted period box printed “G. Brown & Sons Ltd, Diamond Merchants, Minehead”. While the box cannot be guaranteed original to the pin, it is of appropriate age and presents the piece extremely well.
