World War II Patriotic Event Post Office Renaming

In the State of West Virginia, one of the most patriotic States in the Nation, a group of Citizens decided to rename their little town in Raleigh County West Virginia from the disgraceful, sinful name of Hollywood to MacArthur in honor of the Great General.

On April 15, 1942, the Post Office in Hollywood West Virginia was rededicated to MacArthur, West Virginia.

The Philatelic Community especially Patriotic Cover Producer embraced this event.
The US Post Office Department honor this event by a special cancel of  "FIRST DAY COVER" which has for years has confused stamp collector into thinking that it was a First Day of Issue cancellation for the Stamp on the envelope.

I have started listing my collection of these historic covers.

Take a look at these covers.

These covers retail at stamp shows for ass much as $50.00
