Maker Mark : The Crest (Circle with a Cross):

This is the Shimazu clan crest (the ruling family of the Satsuma domain in southern Kyushu). Its presence is the traditional hallmark of genuine Satsuma pottery.

The Text (吉山): The hand-painted kanji characters read Yoshiyama (also sometimes translated as Kizan or Hozan in certain kiln contexts), identifying the specific decorator or workshop responsible for the hand-painted artistry

The distinctive web of fine cracks visible under the mark is called a crackle glaze. This is a foundational, intentional characteristic of authentic antique Satsuma earthenware
