Japanese Alpine Outdoor Tool from Hokkaido
This is a set of two vintage iron mountaineering / camping tools marked “秀岳荘” (Shūgakuso).
Shūgakuso is a well-known outdoor and mountaineering shop based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
Items bearing the Shūgakuso name are interesting pieces connected to Hokkaido’s outdoor and alpine culture.
The exact original use of these pieces is not confirmed.
Due to their wide leaf-shaped iron blades and large rope eyes, they appear to be old snow / ground anchors or piton-like mountaineering / camping tools rather than standard rock pitons.
The heavy iron construction, hand-forged appearance, aged patina, and visible Shūgakuso markings give this set a very unique vintage presence.
A rare and characterful item for collectors of Japanese mountaineering gear, alpine history, outdoor shop memorabilia, or rustic iron tools.
