Authentic vintage Bacardi Rum Company letter dated January 10, 1953, issued by Compañía “Ron Bacardi,” S.A. in Santiago de Cuba.

This remarkable historical letter was addressed to renowned American naval officer and polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd, and was sent through the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba.

The letter congratulates Byrd in advance of his upcoming 65th birthday and recognizes his celebrated expeditions to Antarctica and his accomplishments as an explorer and researcher.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the letter is its direct connection between Bacardi and Byrd’s Antarctic expeditions. The text states that Bacardi had learned through press reports and Byrd’s own statements that he had taken several bottles of Bacardi Rum on his expeditions, noting their usefulness in the extremely cold and inhospitable Antarctic environment.

The letter expresses the company’s pride and appreciation that its rum accompanied the famous explorer during his expeditions.

A particularly desirable feature of this historical document is the signature of José Bosch, identified on the letter as Director General of Compañía “Ron Bacardi,” S.A.

The original Bacardi letterhead prominently features the famous Bat trademark, Santiago de Cuba company information, a large Bacardi company stamp/seal, and a vintage Bacardi bottle advertising illustration with the slogan “BACARDI – EL GRAN RON DEL MUNDO.”
