Rare Original 1964 Beatles Sandwich serving tray measuring 36cm X 23cm. Features only the Liverpool stamp on back.
This item came from the deceased estate of a Beatles fan and collector living in Sydney Australia. Back in the 90's we auctioned and sold on consignment for him many of his rarer pieces including a fully Signed Beatles item.
From my research it would appear this is an original 1964 Sandwich platter/ serving tray. There is no gold trim on this item. Also back is smooth apart from a slim ridge along centre and only has the Liverpool stamp.
Because it lacks the gold trim and features a smooth, flat ceramic back with only the "Liverpool" ink stamp, this piece is a 1964 manufacturing variant. During the height of Beatlemania in 1964, factories in Stoke-on-Trent were rushed to push out thousands of souvenir items daily, frequently leading to batches missing the secondary "Washington Pottery" factory stamp while retaining the "Liverpool" identifier.
Tray is wonderful condition with little sign of cracks in glaze. Plate is in Excellent condition.
