Historical Background

The Cabinet War Rooms, now part of the Imperial War Museum, served as Britain's underground command centre throughout much of the Second World War. From these secure rooms beneath Westminster, Winston Churchill and his War Cabinet directed Britain's war effort during the Blitz and throughout the conflict.

This official Imperial War Museum commemorative medal celebrates both Churchill's leadership and the historic headquarters from which many of the most important wartime decisions were made.
