I am not certain but I believe the central container was for loose leaf tea and the slotted areas are for either tea bags or napkins!! There is no spoon but it is in EXCELLENT condition with no chips or cracks and some wear to the hand painted finish!! Approx. 5" to the top of the lid X 7.5" X 3" at the base!!
