Rare Coin

This silver dollar has been in the family for decades, and is now available due to a death in the family. The coin was purchased from SJRC Ltd (South Jersey Rare Coin) -  a historical coin and bullion dealer that previously operated physical locations in Turnersville and Millville, NJ. The 1879-O marks the first year the New Orleans Mint (indicated by the "O" mint mark on the reverse) produced the Morgan Silver Dollar. 

Composition: 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams.

An 1879 New Orleans Morgan silver dollar is generally worth between $75 and $225 in circulated condition, depending on its specific wear and grade. An 1889-O Morgan silver dollar is a highly collectible 90% silver coin struck at the historic New Orleans Mint.  An 1879-O Morgan silver dollar (minted in New Orleans) is typically worth between $60 and $120 in circulated condition.
