Fun Kaya FACTS:
If your Kaya American Girl doll has an internal shoulder tag that is completely blank and not punched, it means she was manufactured in late 1999 or very early 2000 during the initial factory testing phase of the tagging system. [1]
Why Your Tag Is Not Punched?
Factory Testing: When Mattel first introduced internal tracking tags inside the right shoulder of the cloth body, the factory ran a trial batch using unpunched tags.
Pre-2000 Era:
Because the standard tag system only accounted for months A–L and years 0–9 (corresponding to 2000–2009), the factory could not punch a date for a doll structurally assembled at the tail end of 1999.
Kaya's Release Mystery: While Kaya was officially released to the public in September 2002, American Girl used standard pre-made cloth torsos from their inventory supply lines. Your doll's fabric body was simply manufactured and sitting in storage long before Kaya's specific head mold and limbs were attached for her launch.
