The letter is addressed to one "Dr. Wheeler" and reads: "Dear Dr. Wheeler: I am delighted to learn that you are willing to accept appointment to the National Advisory Committee on the Selection of Physicians, Dentists, and Allied Specialists and I take great pleasure in appointing you. Your compensation will be on a when-actually-employed basis and you will be paid by the Selective Service System at the maximum rate authorized by law for consultants serving that System. You will also receive the usual travel and subsistence allowances." The letter is dated July 17, 1961 and is typed on "The White House" letterhead; Kennedy's signature is penned below a typed "Sincerely." The letter exhibits light toning with tape adhesion residue evident along the edges; included in the encapsulated is the original envelope that exhibits heavy staining.
