Ogonyok — Original Soviet Illustrated Weekly Magazine (USSR)

Ogonyok ("little flame") was one of the oldest and most popular illustrated weekly magazines in Russia, founded in 1899. In the Soviet era it was published in Moscow by the Pravda Publishing House and reached millions of readers every week.

Each issue combines photojournalism, news and current affairs with literature, poetry, art reproductions and reports on Soviet life, culture and science. Ogonyok was especially known for its colour photography and became a primary source on how the USSR saw itself and the world.
