An incredibly rare piece of glam rock history. Up for auction/sale is an authentic, original vintage 1970s music press photograph of the legendary Marc Bolan of T. Rex - in front of the neon MARC sign and him wearing his iconic leopard skin top.
This stunning black-and-white print was captured by the world-renowned British rock photographer Kevin Cummins (famed for his iconic shots of Joy Division, The Smiths, and Oasis) during the filming of Bolan's Granada Television programme, Marc, in August 1977.
On the reverse, the photograph features the authentic vintage purple ink stamp from Cummins’ early career studio: "KEVIN CUMMINS PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY, 14 Sussex Street, Salford M7 9QE", complete with the historic 061 Manchester/Salford area code. This stamp guarantees its provenance as a period press print, not a modern reproduction.
Historical Significance
This photograph is from one of the final professional shoots of Marc Bolan's life. The Marc TV show was filmed at Granada Studios in Manchester in August 1977. Tragically, Bolan passed away in a car crash on 16 September 1977, just weeks after these sessions. Photos from this specific television set are highly sought after by T. Rex completists and rock memorabilia collectors worldwide.
