Antique 18th Century German Jailers Lock.
Unusual sliding Iron Padlock
24.4cm long at top
3.8cm wide bar fitted to Padlock part
Not sure if this is for door lock or to chain inmates chains to wall loop etc ??
I found several online - simply described as Jailers Lock - many stated they were German in origin.
Ive never seen one before so probably is Continental and not British
Surface rust as shown - may need cleaning up
The Key fits in hole for display and turns BUT DOES NOT LOCK
The lock part is open and opens / slides along top rod ( sliding lock part can be removed to fit through Iron rings to lock)
Great looking item for display
Could be fitted to old Oak door etc
Suit Period Home / Film Prop - Castle etc
Could be cleaned up
