This is a RARE Uncorrected Proof of the 1st Print of the 1st UK hardback edition published by Jonthan Cape in 1965
Presented here in the rare Proof jacket.
The trade edition book was never published with a wrapper - it replicated the proof wrapper design onto illustrated boards - making this all the more remarkable and gives a valuable insight into the production of this publication.
A Fine example, the gatherings sewn, with plain covers.
One small mark to rear endpaper.
Slight creasing to top corners of early leaves.
Proof with noted differences to the trade publication, which can be seen most strikingly with the green floor to p.10-11, which changed to a plain white, or blank floor for the trade publication.
In the rare original unclipped glossy Proof wrapper with the price of 10s 6d to front flap, which also carries the blurb and reviews that were not carried over to the trade edition.
Rear flap states 'PROOF ONLY’ and gives the publication date of June 24th 1965.
A superb example in original condition and one of only a handful that we could locate for sale.
