A striking and elegant Giuseppe Armani Florence sculptural table lamp base featuring a graceful pair of herons standing amongst reeds and waterside foliage. Beautifully modelled with the elongated necks and delicate legs that made Armani's wildlife studies so highly regarded amongst collectors.
The sculpture is mounted upon a turned wooden display base and fitted with a removable lamp column (which will be removed for transport). This offers two display possibilities: it can be used as an elegant table lamp base or displayed purely as a decorative sculpture by removing the lamp fitting. If removed, a small fixing hole remains visible in the base where the lamp column was mounted.
The birds are finished in subtle shades of white, ivory and soft grey with finely detailed feather work. Their intertwined poses create a wonderful sense of movement and companionship, making this an eye-catching decorative piece whether illuminated or displayed as a sculpture.

Giuseppe Armani (1935–2006) was one of Italy's most celebrated sculptors and designers. Working from Florence, he became internationally renowned for creating highly detailed figurines and sculptures inspired by nature, wildlife, classical subjects and everyday life.
His works were produced under the Florence Sculture d'Arte studio and distributed worldwide, becoming particularly popular with collectors during the 1970s through early 2000s. Unlike traditional porcelain Capodimonte pieces, Armani sculptures were typically created using specially formulated composite materials which allowed exceptionally fine detailing and lifelike modelling.
The signature visible on this example attributes the design to R. Pennati, one of the artists associated with the Florence studio. The impressed Florence mark confirms production by the renowned Armani workshop.
Giuseppe Armani's wildlife sculptures are particularly sought after because of their anatomical accuracy. Many were created after extensive observation of living animals and birds, giving them a realism that distinguishes them from many decorative figurines of the period.

The sculpture displays well with no obvious major damage noted during inspection. There is age-related wear consistent with use and display. The wooden base has some minor surface marks and wear commensurate with age.
The lamp fitting and column are present and removable. Wiring appears intact, however as with any vintage electrical item, buyers may wish to have the lamp checked by a qualified electrician before regular use.
