A first edition of this lovely work. 

Bound in a full calf, prize binding for The King's School, Chester. Covered in a beautiful, hand embroidered green linen wrap, depicting a palm leaf with the Alpha and Omega greek letters beneath with a charming embroidered border.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty-one leaves of photograveur and monochrome plates and further paginated, full page and in-text illustrations. Collated, complete.

A thoughfully produced compendium of the Old Testament in art, copiously illustrated and edited by Welsh art and architectural writer, Walter Shaw Sparrow.

 

CONDITION

 

 

Bound in a full calf, prize binding with a hand embroidered linen wrap. Externally, generally smart. Slight rubbing with the odd marks to boards and extremities. Bookplate to front paste down. Linen wrap, smart. Fading to front wrap and spine, less faded to fly leaves and rear wrap. Slight edgewear and loss to linen, mostly at head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Scattered spotting throughout, heaviest to first and last leaves.
