Original Haring Merch
Keith Haring formed a friendship and collaboration with former curator Bruce Kurtz beginning in 1985 when the artist designed these shirts for sale in The Museum Store.
They promoted the American Art of the 1980s exhibition, which examined how artists negotiated a media-saturated landscape and connected with broadening audiences. The artwork featured on the front of these shirts is a variation of the artist’s 1985 “Tree of Life design,” with sprouting leaves that morph into people—a representation of the unity of humanity.
Collaborating with former PhxArt curator Bruce Kurtz, Keith Haring contributed billboard, banner, and t-shirt designs for the 1986 exhibition American Art of the 1980s. The exhibition included four untitled Haring works that highlighted the influence of New York City’s graffiti subculture on the artist.
