Product Description
Incredible digital analog sound Next-generation analog modeling Oscillators Dual modeling filters The
new multi/poly is the first product to feature KORG's next-generation analog modeling technology. It is based on the legendary signature combination of big sound and experimental features derived from modularity.
It's like a modular system in a compact package, making it an endless playground for synth players and sound designers. Create
hardware mashups with East Coast, West Coast, and Wavetable oscillators, as well as a wide selection of newly modeled filters.
Use different envelopes, VCAs, and portamento circuit models to give your synth sound the freedom to change.
Virtual voice cards can be used to add analog variations, creating organic tonal variations.
Layer rotation triggers a new program with each key press.
In addition, various changes are possible with Kaoss Physics, Motion Sequencing 2.0, modulation, etc.
Multi/Poly features a newly designed filter and oscillator for incredible sound, but the evolution of analog modeling goes even deeper.
Oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and portamento circuits model variations of analog hardware components.
As a result, each one has a slightly different character, creating a natural and rich tone.
You can increase or decrease this variation as you like for each sound.
Just like analog synths, voice cards keep changing even when you're not listening.
The envelope also keeps moving, so if you play a pad with a long release time, the newly played note will "catch" the envelope at its current level rather than restarting it from scratch.
The oscillator and LFO maintain phase, and the resonance continues to sound.
The pitch of each oscillator also drifts slightly over time, modeling the slight pitch instability seen in analog hardware.
Envelopes are an often overlooked element that contributes to the unique sound of vintage synths, but multi/poly includes presets for envelope curves from classic instruments such as Mono/Poly, MS-20, and ARP Odyssey.
Analog VCAs also do not respond uniformly to voltages and have different thresholds between on and off, which strongly affects the character of the amplifier envelope.
Therefore, multi/poly also models the VCA response of many famous machines such as Mono/Poly, MS-20, and Odyssey, and also includes linear settings.
Have you ever tried to recreate the portamento of your favorite song, toggled between "constant rate" and "constant time", but couldn't find the correct setting? Because classic analog synths had a different approach to portamento, Multi/Poly offers six different portamento models.
The multi/poly has four oscillators per program for very thick and complex tones.
Each oscillator is available in classic, digital, and waveshaper oscillator types.
The classic models the oscillators of traditional analog synths and results in a surprisingly faithful and deep sound.
Among the 11 waveforms, there are not only single waveforms but also dual waveforms, allowing you to model synths that produce multiple waveforms at once. The
panel knob controls pulse width, triangular wave tilt, dual waveform blending, and more.
The digital oscillator plays a 64-step wavetable, like a vintage hybrid synth or a modern Eurorack module.
Start with over 200 factory wavetables or load your own using the Editor/Librarian software.
Import modwave wavetables directly or convert wavetables from popular software formats.
With over 30 modifiers, you can change the way the table loads, from subtle to extreme tones.
Waveshapers offer a "West Coast" approach in which simple waveforms (sine or triangle waves) are processed in a shaper table.
Modulating the gain in the shaper creates a dynamic harmonics. Use
Berkeley shapers for classic wave folder tones or choose from over 90 shaper types.
Multi/poly has a unique twist in the form of modulable pulse widths, creating another dimension of richness and movement.
In addition to oscillators 1~4, it is equipped with an independent noise generator with dedicated filtering and saturation, as well as a ring modulator with all the above inputs.
It also expands on the powerful oscillator sync and X-Mod functions of the original Mono/Poly to achieve a sound that can only be achieved with a large modular setup.
Oscillator 1 followed by Oscillators 2, 3, and 4 sync, X-mod, or both at the same time to create a unique sound.
You can also split any of the functions into oscillator pairs and control them separately.
All of the multi/poly filters have been redesigned, including a wonderful set of vintage filters with pleasant saturation.
Let's start with five different 4-pole self-oscillating models.
"M/Poly" offers the powerful and sweet sound of the original Mono/Poly.
The Mini is a beloved mono synth ladder filter in the United States that reduces low-frequency resonance, which is important for creating classic bass sounds.
The "Pro" is the first programmable polyphonic synthesizer and features a strong resonance sweep.
Finally, the Ladder HP and Ladder BP are self-oscillating high-pass and bandpass filters with 4 poles, respectively.
The MS-20 LP and MS-20 HP, 12dB/oct self-oscillating "KORG 35" filters lovingly reproduce the characteristic and aggressive tone of the classic KORG MS-20.
The "SE M/P" 2-pole filter has a gentler character, allowing for low-pass, band reject, It features continuous control to sweep between high-passes and an independent bandpass mode. The
perfect collection of linear, resonant 2- and 4-pole low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band reject filters that can also be shaped and refined.
Multi-filters allow you to modulate and blend multiple modes at the same time.
These filters support all audio rate modulations, such as bright and bubbly effects, to create catchy effects. You
can use oscillators or ring modulators as modulation sources, or blend noise generators to create chaotic tones.
In addition to the built-in saturation in the vintage filter, the post filter's anti-aliasing drive circuitry allows you to add weight and firmness to your liking, from subtle thickness to heavy distortion.
Finally, these filters can be used simultaneously, either in series or parallel.
Each source, including four oscillators, noise, and ring modulation, has a balance control that crossfades the two filters, allowing for a wide range of creative options.
For example, one group of oscillators is passed through the M/Poly filter and the other is passed through the MS-20 low pass.
Create a classic high-pass - > low-pass serial chain and route one or more oscillators around the highpass.
It's not just a switch, it's a continuous crossfade, so you can modulate the A/B balance for a unique effect.
Filters can also be operated in stereo, with separate pans for each source.
Multi/Poly has four layers, each of which contains a program.
Of course, you can create layer sounds, velocity splits, and keyboard splits. Inspired by the
paraphonic mode of cycling through the original Mono/Poly's four oscillators, Layer Rotate adds a new possibility of flexible round-robin throughout the program.
Many knobs and controllers invite you to explore the sound.
Oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and effects are all at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls.
The four programmable mod knobs are customized to bring out any sound.
You can also use the knobs to play in real time or save the result as a new sound.
The hold button allows you to operate the front panel controls and play other equipment while keeping your notes and chords going indefinitely.
Motion Sequencing 2.0 is an evolution of WaveState's Wave Sequencing 2.0. The
timing, pitch, shape, and set of four step sequence values are separated into "lanes", each with its own loop start and loop end, adding a deeper, more customizable level of phrase and modulation recording.
Kaoss Physics is modeled after how a ball rolls on a surface or bounces off a wall. You can start the
ball by flicking your finger on the x/y pad, or you can use a trigger source such as gate + damper to automatically launch the ball.
You can also control the ball directly by running your finger over the pad.
The position of the ball generates four modulation signals, allowing you to control the desired modulation destination, such as the position of X and Y, distance from the center, angle to the X axis, etc.
This method of application of automatic modulation is very unique, providing modulation that is constantly evolving.
